This is a charitable trust established in Sangli in 1982. It was established out of the need for development of children of the working communities in Panchasheelnagar, Sangli.
The fathers and mothers of the children were used to work in the sugar factory located nearby for the whole day. This fact created problematic situations mainly for the young children and then for their elder brothers and sisters. The women were used to keep their younger children locked into the houses and keep their elder children for looking after them. This was preventing the young children from care and shelter and their elder brothers and sisters from schooling. As the children were free and were alienated from schooling, they were having inclinations towards delinquent tendencies.
This situation was observed by Mrs. Malti Joshi and she decided to start a Samskar Varga (Class for moral education) called “Shubham Karoti”. This was the pioneering step in this kind of work in this particular locality. Later on this activity was accompanied by numerous other activities such as creche or day- care centres, vocational training centres and self help groups.
